The Courage to Keep Going
Sometimes it seems like you can't win for losing, like if one more thing gets added onto my plate, I won't be able to carry it any longer. I often feel like Sisyphus in a Hanna Barbera cartoon, with the ceaseless rolling of the huge boulder to the top of the mountain, and instead of it rolling back down of it's own accord, it takes me with it. My body is draped over the stony exterior and as it rolls down, I roll under the rock (thus the reference to Hanna Barbara...can you almost hear Fred Flintsone crying "WIIIIILLLLMAAAAA!?!)
Albert Camus said that the myth indicates that there is no more dread labor than that which is futile and meaningless.
While my feelings are certainly real, I can say with great assurance that the effort is NOT futile or meaningless. If I believe in God and His Word, I must know that He is lovingly behind every action I take, seeking my best and His Kingdom and glory in each situation. Knowing that He is FOR me gives me the courage to keep going, in spite of knowing that tomorrow I likely face pushing that cold stone up the hill again. As the song goes, "Because He lives, I can face tomorrow."
Walk in Compassion; others are pushing a boulder up the hill beside you.
Love,
Marti
